In the beginning, there was a mom. She started a blog last July, and to her great surprise, people actually began reading her blog. But then this mom’s extended family found the blog. And though the mom didn’t believe there was anything offensive on her blog, there was much drama.
The mom tried to continue writing on her blog, but found that she didn’t feel safe or comfortable there any longer. Because the details that had caused drama had seemed so innocent in the past, she worried that any post mentioning anything in her life would be misconstrued and problematic. So, despite the fact that she had finally broken the 100 Feedburner subscriber threshold, she had to leave her blog and be reborn as MommyGeek of Mommy Geekology.
If you’ve managed to hear about the move through the social networking grapevine and have followed me over, let me express my undying gratitude. You look great today! Nice ass!
I’ll be holding a contest soon to get the word out. Meanwhile, please subscribe!

Just ... no. {Wardrobe malfunction}
Excess

your story is EXACTLY like my own!! i started a blog called such simple pleasures, back in sept. 2007. my in-laws found it and began lurking. and suddenly, i was the dooce of the family. so despite the ache in my heart, i shut down ssp. and i quit blogging…for a couple weeks. until…i had a dream that tara from if mom say ok yelled at me. i woke up with the name for a new blog…rock and drool. and i reopened for business.
so…
good for you!! congratulations! i hope no one finds your new place!!
Me too! We’ve taken all the necessary precautions… private domain name ownership, nicknames we don’t use at home or in public, etc. Hope to see you around! I’m wayyyy behind on blog reading (new job and new class starts tomorrow, that’s been pretty all-consuming!) but I’ll be around soon, I promise!
Hi!
Hi. I heart you.
I’d follow you anywhere
Will subscribe next and will hope that this remains YOUR space!
Have I told you that you’re lovely?
I am excited. I noticed that after your family discovered your blog, and you wrote that apology letter, you really didn’t post much. And when you did, it wasn’t to the same caliber.
I am EXCITED! Can’t wait to read more!
I know, I know. ::Groan:: But, fresh and clean and new anonymous space. Woot!
I’m stalking you over here now. Just like a good stalker should.
And for that I am thankful
i’ve re-subscribed. bummer for you. tough decision to have to make. btw – how can u tell how many ppl are subscribed to you? i’ve always been curious!!!
I use FeedBurner — works out well for me, in conjunction with Get Clicky for stats.
I heart you! Thanks for letting me know you’re here.
I may need to do the same thing. Very little can be said on my blog nowadays; too many people who know me in real life know where I write. Harder to function that way, for sure.
Been there, done that. Except I kept the blog and dropped the MIL.
Oh, how I wish.
1st I love Scary Mommy’s solution LOL!!!
2nd, I FOUND YOU, well in my google reader, didn’t miss a beat.
3rd I hope it never happens to me! So far my blog is a secret to family
hope it stays that way.
Yay! So glad it worked
love the new blog. What is it with family? Sheesh!
They totally drive me nuts. Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em…
I like the diggs…can’t wait to see what you have in store here!
~K
Sorry about the drama. But I’m glad you are here.
I did pretty much the same thing. Major blow up with family about thoughts I put on my old blog. Now I’ve got this one the fam is none the wiser!
Totally rough. So glad that you ended up with a space of your own in the end, though!
how do I subscribe? I don’t see a button! I normally use google friend connect – that’s how I read all my blogs – in my google reader. Help!
And…I SOOO relate to this scenario. I might be copping out of my current blog later this year for a similar reason – too many family members read it so I totally have to censor myself!
ps – Renee (but why mommy) mentioned that she wants to meet several people at blogher – me and you included! And then I saw your site on my friend Kate’s site, so I’m so glad I popped over today!
@christy, I’m so glad, too!! I added Google Friend connect, but you can also usually subscribe to any page with an RSS feed by looking in the corner of the address bar in your browser window — that little orange icon there (do you have one) allows you to subscribe to the page.
I’ll also add some subscribe buttons to the sidebar!
