I am not a crafty person. Have you ever been to Craftastrophe? If not give a click. Go ahead. See those things?
That’s what I’d end up with. But more poorly made, and with a warrant out for my arrest, because my probability of homicide goes up the more glitter, glue, felt, stickers and markers are around.
I made a “Good Job Sticker Chart” for Cupcake to use.
It took me a couple of hours. I am not lying. And yes, I know that the potty looks sort of like a sock. Cupcake tells me every day, ok? LAY OFF.
My mother and my sister are very crafty. My mother in particular. (Sidenote: they also love animals, and I’m not so fond. Switched at birth?) They will do any kind of craft be it paper mache or felt, clay or marker, anything.
The kids are lucky if I manage to get out fresh paper and some crayons from time to time.
I think the biggest issue is that I don’t like the mess. My house is by no means clean – but I just get a big ole’ icky feeling when I think of crafts and my carpets. Or my tables. Or my chairs. Or, anything frankly.
I was home alone today with Cupcake and Geeklet (usually I work full time) and I let her paint, but not before laying three trash bags on the floor, a towel on the bench and taping another trash bag to the table top with a stern admonition to not throw any paintbrushes. (The paint is washable. It comes right out. I don’t know what I’m worried about)
Are you crafty? Join in on our Girl Talk Thursday post and let us know what’s going on. I’m looking at you, Undomestic Diva. I heard about your craft room.

*hangs head in shame* yes, I’m crafty, but NO I’m not very good at it.
My daughter…OMG…yes, she is all about the crafty and I totally want to throw it all out some days but…instead I leave it to take up space in my storage closet. (You’re chart looks good..’cupcake’ and all!) *wink*

I share this aversion with you. I am by no means crafty. Never have been, never will be, and sometimes I think I’m depriving my boys because of this. We have done some big projects with them, but I have to really psych myself up for them because I dread the mess and the glitter, and the glitter, and the glitter! Ha! This year’s Halloween activity was by no means as elaborate as last year’s haunted graham cracker houses!

My wife is crafty, my sister is crafty, my mother is crafty, my mother-in-law is crafty.
Me? I can make a mean card with construction paper.

@Maria, the chart IS working well, when we remember to use it. Trying to be better about it. We’ve already reached one Prize with two more closely following. She loves putting the stickers up there.

I can crochet, which is kind of crafty. That is about it. I do let my kids paint while sitting in their high chairs, but I always take all their clothes off. I hate glue. Kids always use too much and gets it everywhere. And neither of my kids have mastered cutting yet, so that really limits which crafts we can do.

Ah, the dread reward chart. I couldn’t make one that I could stand to look at, so I laminated some clip art and stuck a magnet on the back. Javi could just move the sticker from the “to do” area to the “did it” area on our white board. Cause I, too, am not so good with the crafty (though I wish I was).
We don’t do many crafts, but that’s because I’m lazy.

I like your sock toilet! Do you think you could make me a chart? Maybe I’d be more motivated to do MY “chores”…

My favorite is the picture you have before eating hehe ^_^. Looks like something I’ve drawn too so don’t feel bad, I think it’s fantastic! I really love the chart too. It’s a wonderful craft idea to use and incorporate with my toddler.

I swear my son is more his father than me in this department. I have to beg him just to color with crayons. I’m about all the crafts ie sewing, quilting, stitching, crocheting, card making, scrap booking (are you jealous yet???)….

your switched at birth comment made me laugh. I get the mess business. I hate it too but I love crafting so much it doesn’t matter. what you need is a craft ROOM! So you can close and lock the door and not have to clean up!

I love playdough, OUTSIDE only. I love painting, but with proper coverings like you. Crafts are great, why don’t you try the chocolate syrup finger painting? Oh and a little tip, if you should ever forget to wash your paintbrushes right away and they get all hard with paint, soak them in vinegar, it will clean them right up good as new!

Hahaha, you remind me of me in my life before grandkids. I hated mess, I still do, but for TOF’s sake we craft and paint and I’ve lowered my standards a lot. Relax, breathe, it’s ok to craft, it’s the process, not the end result that counts.

My mom was a craft diva, and an excellent seamstress. My sister is also an excellent seamstress. Because I am, like, 700 times smarter than my sister, I assumed that by the laws of genetics and common sense, that I too am an excellent seamstress, though I never attempted to sew anything. When I was pregnant with my first child, I decided to sew lots of fabulous babyish things. A $500 sewing machine, full bolt of fabric and three days of my life later, I had made a bib. An effing lopsided butt-ugly bib. And there ended my sewing career.
