Do You Need A Dogs & Cats At Home Together?

Having a pet and a baby both at home can be quite challenging. Keeping both away from one another can be another arduous task to do.

This can actually become a very hard task if your baby is not used to of grasping things gently. You need to be mentally prepared for it when you bring your baby home.

Another thing which one should remain prepared is of allowing – both the baby and the pet – time to get familiarized with one another.

Here is the list of things which you should do in order to create a safe and secured environment at home.

1) Make both your baby and pet familiarized with one another slowly and gradually.

2) Allocate a separate space for your pet in case if your pet ever wishes to seek a break from all humans.

3) Never allow your child to abuse the pets. Make them learn the right behaviour of dealing with the pets.

4) Spend time with your pet as you do with your child and make sure to give it exercise time too.

5) Don’t trust your child with a pet or vice versa.

These are the five points which should be followed religiously in order to avoid any mishaps or ill consequences.

We will be discussing these five points in detail in the following where you can learn how to implement these pointers in real life and how to have both your baby and pet on the same page at the same time.

This is not very different from managing two different pets at home. Read how another mother is catering to dogs & cats at home together.

1) Making The Baby And The Pet Familiarized

As per professionals, a new pet takes some time before getting familiarized with anything new. You should expect the same for your infant. Give your pet some time before it can accept your baby’s presence.

This behaviour will allow your pet to be comfortable around your baby.

2) Have A Personal Space For Your Pet

Just like humans, a pet needs its own personal space as well. They need a space too in order to get a break from all the hassle and noise.

Allocate a space for your pet where it can go once everyone in the home is done playing. This will not exhaust your pet and will make your pet to relax whenever it gets tired. A personal space will also act as an energy booster and your pet will feel re-energized after taking such a break once in a while.

3) Inculcate The Habit Of Handling The Pet Gently

Your baby should know how to handle a pet. Pets are not humans. Hence, they cannot make noise when they feel disturbed, uncomfortable, or upset because of our behavior. We have to understand their feelings on our own.

Babies have natural tendency of pulling and grasping things harshly once they grow up enough. They want to touch each and everything and they can sometimes get very harsh.

If you don’t want this to happen with your pet then make your baby learn the art of gentleness. They will adapt this behavior with time and will learn the right model of behavior.

4) Spend Time With Your Pet As You Do With Your Baby

Spending some time with your pet is a very essential matter once a new baby comes in home. Your pet needs the same attention as does your baby. You need to give your pet some time so that they don’t become lonely.

Make them exercise and play with them along with your baby. This will be a fun activity for both your pet and baby and will instantly make them friends with one another.

5) Never Trust Your Baby With A Pet

Trusting your baby with a pet can be the most stupid thing which anyone can do. Because no matter how friendly your pet can be, still, it is a pet and your baby isn’t old enough to defend himself in case of any emergency.

Never ever leave the two alone in the same territory when you are away. This can be dangerous.

Always have some elder person around if you ever have to leave them for a while. But keep an eye during this time and stay close.

Pets don’t think like us humans so you have to be very wary of this.

Conclusion

These are the five tips that we have mentioned and which will allow you to keep your baby safe when any pet is around them or if you own a pet yourself. Giving due training will ensure the saftey of your baby as well as of your pet.
